We caught up with co-manager John Robertson ahead of Saturday’s league opener at home to Camelon where he gave us his thoughts on a range of topics as we all look forward to the big kick off.
‘Saturday is a game that everyone around the club is really looking forward to. Pre season has went really well so far with some positive results and the boys have worked hard for the last 5 weeks. We wanted to create a togetherness within the group that will hopefully translate on to the pitch and I think we’ve got off to a good start in terms of that. Last season it was doom and gloom around the club and you could also even say in the changing rooms it was the same at times just because of the position we were in so a togetherness had to be the first focus for the squad.
The signings we have brought in have integrated well in to the group. Choice of character was a big part of our signing process and will continue to be so. We identified positions we had to strengthen and done well in replacing the boys that left as we lost some key players last season.
On Saturday we kick off in our season opener and it would be great to have a huge Leith support there to cheer the team on. When it mattered last season we generated big crowds through the door and they had a massive part in our home form having a turnaround later on in the season to help keep us up.
This season our plan is to try and improve on last season and finish as high up the table as possible. Last year wasn’t good enough so this year we are trying to improve everything we can on and off the pitch to give us the best chance.
Our season opener on Saturday will be a very tough game as we come up against a Camelon side who will fancy themselves for promotion this year but the boys are buzzing for it and we are all hoping we can get off to a good start.’
